Knitted Love

Someone else is snuggled up in all my knitted love this morning. Elliott came down stairs early this morning and snuggled up in his Lizard Ridge and is sleeping peacefully all wrapped up in my stitches knit with love. This is his afghan, so it is nice to see him use it! Each of my boys is getting a Noro afghan to have forever! I hope they love them for a very long time.

Update

I am so sorry that I have not posted much this week. I have been designing some lace and boy is it a headache for me. I feel like I am pretty smart, but boy all those charts boggle my mind! I have been trying to do the math for days. I finally gave up on a triangle and am now knitting a large rectangle that I will put a border on. I am truly humbled by designing lace. I will have pictures for you soon. Trish

Our Newest Knitter

This is Selena LaTrue Anderberg! She is our youngest knitter! She was born 6-11-09! Isn't she cute! I tried to teach her to knit.

I think that she thought knitting was hard! I will try again in a few years, I think. I was just happy to get to hold her at Knit Night last night.

Some Spinning

I worked furiously this morning on some spinning. I was asked to spin some fiber up for a customer at the shop. I left it sitting for about a week and decided that I had better get started on it this morning. Good thing I did. I had a due date and I didn't even know it. I need to have it in the shop by Friday. Since I am working Knit Night tonight I thought that I should get it done today so that I don't have to make an extra trip to the shop this week.

So here is the story on the fiber. The customer who brought it in does not spin. A friend of hers wanted her to knit a scarf for her. So the friend went out to buy the materials for the scarf and this fiber is what she bought. The customer was dismayed because she doesn't spin so how in the heck was she supposed to turn the fiber into a scarf. In comes me!

Fiber

Yarn

Hopefully a scarf next!

It is so funny to me that people who do not knit or spin really have know idea what materials we could possible need to execute our craft! I hope the friend likes her scarf!

I Promised

I promised you knitting, so here it is. I designed a sun hat to teach a class on. I starched the outside of the brim yesterday and today I think I will starch the inside. I would like it to be firm and at the moment it is not. I think I might have to call it the Floppy Sun Hat! If I can't get the laundry starch to work I will have to use wire. What do you all think? I would love some ideas!

World Wide Knit In Public Day

Today was World Wide Knit in Public Day! We knitters united and gathered! We had a great time visiting and knitting together. The spinners and crocheters had a presence as well. We even had at least one male knitter!!! I love to see men get in on all the action. The Knitting Bee was present and we gave away great stuff, you know yarn and books! Who could ask for anything more?

I am still in the middle of moving! We will be slowly moving the small stuff for at least the next week. Boy I can't wait to be done. But at least this way I can go through all the crap that has accumulated over the years. We are going to have a garage sale next weekend, I am hoping to be done with the sorting by then! Wish me LUCK, I am going to need it.

Oh, and an update on the little guy, he is doing pretty good all things considered. His arm itches a little and he can't wait to get what he calls the thing off his arm! Little does he know that he will have to have a cast on for weeks and he doesn't even have that yet, he still has a splint!

Look what I have been doing all night!

This is what I did tonight!!!

The top picture is what it looked like before it was set and the bottom picture is what it looks like now.

My youngest was running in the front yard and fell! Who knew that tripping could break both bones in your forearm. He was so brave. He barely cried!!! They didn't give him any pain meds at all. They put him to sleep to set it and that is it. I think I am going to give him some Motrin now that we are home and heading for bed! I really want him to sleep tonight.

What a great way to start the weekend! NOT! And we have to move this weekend to boot.

I'm Moving

Hi everyone,
I am moving house and I don't think I will have a lot of time to blog for the next couple of weeks!!! We get the keys to the new house today and over the next two weeks we are going to be sorting, packing and moving. We are all really excited about moving because my best friend and her 4 boys, that just happen to be my boys best friends, live a couple of houses away from our new house. We are going to have a little tribe of boys!!! Anyway I just wanted to let you all know just in case I don't have time to post.

On my Needles

I am knitting up a pair of socks out of some of the first batch of yarn we dyed! I used Turmeric and Cochineal for this skein. I would not sell yarn that has been dyed with Turmeric because it really does fade . I should say that the yellow just mellows a bit. I new it would mellow before I dyed it though so I can't complain. I have decided to work with plants that don't mellow as much though because I like to know what I am getting right away. I am always so impatient!!! Anyway this color is fun and I can't wait to see what it mellows into. By the way all the yarn that I list on Etsy has dried in the sun and the colors stayed true. All plant dyed yarns mellow a little but I want to only sell skeins that will mellow the least. What do you all think?

Notice that the outside of the skein is much lighter then the sock I am knitting. I am pretty sure that the sock is going to end up the color of the skein on the surface. The light just mellows the turmeric, quite a bit. This skein would not be saleable so it is mine and lots of fun for me. I think I will hang them on the line when they are finished so that the sun can finish its magic!

I opened.....

I opened an Etsy Shop, with my friend Helen! As you all know I have been writing knitting patterns for a long time. I have decide to sell just a few to make it possible to continue to give lots away for free! I listed the Garden Pouch last night on Etsy and on Ravelry. Our Etsy site is RogueAdventures. We just got it up last night and we haven't had time to make it all pretty yet, I promise we will soon. My friend Helen and I have also been dyeing a little yarn with natural dyes! I do believe we will list some of that also. Helen also knows her way around a sewing machine and I don't, so I am trying to convince her to make some small project bags to sell also. I will try to keep you all posted about happens in our shop. We are really just doing this for fun and I hope to keep it that way! Don't worry I won't blog everyday about what I have for sale on Etsy! I promise! Ok, I am off to the farmers market then baseball. Have a great day!

Back from the Farmers Market.
Here are my photos!

Lettuce and Kale from my dear friend Joann's Garden!

And lots of yummy things hiding underneath!

Chasing Rainbows

I posted Chasing Rainbows on Ravelry yesterday and it seems to be very popular. I just wanted to leave a little message here about the gauge. The gauge on the finished blanket after blocking is 3.75 sts to the inch. The Cascade Sierra yarn is used for the blanket and it is worsted weight. The Sierra is made of 80% cotton and 20% wool therefor it stretches a bit. I knit the blanket on size 7 needles it would be fine to use size 8 needles if that is what you have. I am sure when I knit the blanket the gauge was closer to 4.25 sts to the inch. With this pattern the gauge is not really important because you can adjust the size by adding rows or taking out rows. On another note I had a really difficult time putting this pattern into words, if you have any problems with it feel free to contact me.

Garden Art Continued

Yesterday I knit another Garden Pouch out of the orange. It was so fun and quick to knit and it looks so nice hanging in my tree with the first one. So here is the thing, I got the pattern written up today and I am trying to decide if I should sell it or give it away! What do you all think? I am so torn. Help!

Garden Art

I made some garden art last night! They are hanging knit lanterns or vase holders. I think half a dozen of these in different colors around a patio or in the trees for a yard party, would be beautiful. This was really quick and easy. I bought a nice orange color to do another one and I put four more colors in my stash bag at the shop. I can't wait to get moving on it today. There is a crochet pattern in Rowan 41 for something similar but I didn't want to crochet so I came home and made up my own pattern. What do you all think? Do you guys think that I should write the pattern up and make it available?
