Another one Bites the Dust!

I finished Bill's sweater that was supposed to be his Christmas gift! I have had all the knitting done except the collar since Christmas eve! I really don't like seaming and that was the hiccup! This is a Kim Hargreaves design called Jarrett. I like how it knit up. I am so pleased to be finished:)

Oh and the Hubby is slouching in this photo and the weather is not great for taking pictures today but I had to share!

My Juno Regina that I turned into a cowl:) I had two different dye lots and I didn't like how they were working together! This sat on hold for a couple of years and I decided to make it a cowl.

So my other FO for the week is the black lace scarf that was my sisters Christmas present! I gave it to her half done and it took me a while to finish it!!! I think it turned out really nice but I will never knit black lace weight yarn in a lace pattern again!

I took a great Crochet class at The Knitting Bee on Saturday morning with the rest of the staff from the shop! We all learned about crochet charts! Darla Fanton teaches at the Bee and she is a wonderful teacher. I had not crocheted in years. It was so much fun! I made a trivet to go under my teapot!

The Scarf

So I have been meaning to show you all the scarf that the hubby wove for a while but I kept forgetting to take pictures. Well yesterday he joined Ravelry as a weaver and spinner and I took some pictures for his project page! Oh and his name over there is rogueshubby if you want to go friend him and say hi! I told him that he is going to be amazed by how nice fiber people are:) He even joined my group over there and is going to do our first SAL-WAL (spin along and weave along! I am hoping that he will weave me something soon:)

It was snowing!

It was snowing this morning when I woke and I couldn't resist the urge to take pictures of my most recent finished handspun out in the white stuff.

This is the view from are yard this morning. I have no doubt it will melt within an hour or two:(

This is my finished yarn:) Polwarth and Silk dyed by me and spun on my CPW. I got 486 yards of light fingering weight yarn that I plan on turning into a shawl today!

I have had a crazy busy last month with very little time for crafting since Christmas so I am going to take most of the day to just knit and enjoy my cozy couch!

CPW Party!!!

We had a mini CPW party at my house tonight!!! It was so much fun:) We had Four CPWs and some other fun travel wheels too! It was so great. I still have no idea who made my wheel and I still have no idea when it was made but I couldn't love it more!!!!

Sock Yarn Club!

I have decided to add a Sock yarn Club to the Fiber Club that I already do. I will dye up sock yarn in the same colorways I do for Fiber Club and ship it out at the same time. I am super excited about this. I REALLY love the base yarn I use for socks!!! It is my all time favorite! I have a pair of socks in this base that I have been wearing regularly for almost 4 years and you can't tell that they are old! The base is merino and nylon and it is soft and durable! Love it!!! I am only opening this club up to 10 spots at the moment. I may add more later but for now I am testing the waters with 10.

I spun up some chunky merino this week. I am not sure if I like how I spun it. I like the colors by themselves but I am not sure if I like how they blended. I bet I will love it knit up though:)

Okay I spun up a second skein to go with the one I spun the other day! I am going to make stripping mittens and a matching hat for winter walks:) I just had to give you all a little preview! I can't start until my Christmas knitting is done though! Hopefully soon, if I would just quit adding people to my list!

Woot! I did it!

I spun Aran weight yarn in a single! I know those of you who don't spin have no idea what I am talking about so I will explain! So this is how the story goes. When most people learn to spin all they can spin at first are thick and thin fat singles and as we spin more and more we learn to spin finer and finer until we make smooth uniform thin yarn. Then one day the spinner says to oneself I would love to spin a chunky yarn and guess what it is hard to do! Darn near impossible! I have been working on this for a while! Like a year! I feel like I graduated:)Happy dance is going on at my house.

Playing with Sock Yarn!

I dyed some of my absolute favorite sock yarn base. It is 75% merino and 25% nylon. It wears really well and the socks last a long time:) I dyed up just 5 of my colorways and I love how they turned out. I am off to list them in my shop:)

Mitten's Made For Walking

I spun up some singles last night! To me they are thick but I still think they are only DK weight. 264 yards merino and silk:)Obviously before it is not set:)

We woke up this morning to a fairly hard frost:) I love it:)

Grandpa's Gorge

So I knit up a quick hat for my grandpa a couple of days ago. He is one of those guys that doesn't like his ears covered all the way so I made it a little shorter then I normally would:) The yarn is handspun dyed and spun by me:) The colorway is Gorge and I really like how it knit up. I have enough yarn left over to make some mitts for someone! Love it!

Oh and that is my biggest guy Gregory modeling it and we pulled it all the way down on his ears because he likes his hats lower then Grandpa:)

I Was Informed

I am at the end of knitting all my Christmas gifts and this last week I had to knit up some Mittens for my little man. So I said to Elliott "What color mittens do you like?" I was informed that he would like "mitten colored mittens, you know mommy grey"! Just when I thought I was going to knit with some color!

These are my little mans mittens, he will get them for Christmas.

The Christmas Knitting is going great! I only have a 5 people left on the list and three of those projects are started. Two are 1/3 complete and one is 2/3 complete. I pared down the list quite a bit this year to make it manageable. I still have like 25 people but I took off at least 10!

I knit this wee baby sweater up as a shop sample for the Bee. I normally don't share the knits I make for the shop but this one turned out so cute I thought I should:) The yarn is called Honey and we just got it in at the Knitting Bee. It was very soft and yummy to knit!

Oh, I am so in love with this skein of yarn!!! I finally finished spinning it up this morning. I have been a slow spinner as of late and have been working on this one for about 2 months!!! I am really glad that I love it after it took me so long to spin:) It is merino and silk dyed by Dicentra Designs and I bought it at The Knitting Bee! I spun it up on my Sidekick and plied it on my Schacht Reeves. I got 490 yards fingering weight out of 4 oz! Did I tell you I love it! The pictures don't do it justice. Oh and I had not soaked and set it before I took them!

I am checking those Christmas gifts off my list:) One more down 10 or more to go! I can do it:) I love these chunky mitts that I made out of Peru from the Bee:) I knit these in about three hours and that was with ripping back several times to add length. I loosely fallowed this mitten pattern but like always changed it a bit:) Thank you Michelle Porter for making the pattern available for free:) I am quite happy with them!

I just finished up this skein on my CPW! I love that wheel! My friend Shelby over at Spinning Awesome Good dyed the fiber for me and I love how it turned out. I got 362 yards of a heavy fingering weight yarn! This yarn will very soon be a pair of socks.

I finished my Gaia Shoulder Hug yesterday! I have had this shawl on needles for years! I love how it turned out. It is one of my Christmas gifts and I am so glad to have it finished.

It is Fall here in the Pacific Northwest! I went for a run this morning and I couldn't resit taking a picture of the rain drops dripping off the grass at the Nature Park. So pretty in the early morning.

I finished a sweater yesterday and I just need to put buttons on it and then I will take some pictures for you all:) I am working on finishing a shawl and two blankets that have been on needles for a couple of years! I also had the hubby rip out a sweater yesterday that has been on needles for at least 5 years! I am going to make him a different sweater, that one was to large and that is why it was sitting! I only have a handful of projects on needles now and it feels great!!!!!

UFO's In Progress Again!

So I have not had much to say this last week because I have been working on UFO's! It also happens that both UFO's are blankets that will take some time to finish! I love both of them and am so happy to be working on them again.

The first one is a chevron garter stitch blanket that I am making out of 10 colors of Cascade 220! If any of you would like the pattern let me know, I can easily write it up.

The second is Mitered Squares and the pattern is free on Ravelry. It was designed by Chris de Longpré and is super fun to knit!

I also have some socks in progress and I have dyed lots of fiber for my shop! I have also worked a ton at the Knitting Bee in the last couple of weeks so I just haven't had much to show you in terms of finished objects:) I hope one of these blankets is finished soon so I can show you some finished pictures:)

Gradient Dyed Lace Yarn!

I am so excited I figured it out!!! I can dye lace yarn in a gradient to make a shawl that starts with one color and slowly fades to another color and then another color. It was time consuming but not as much so as the many colored sock yarn. I just did a couple small skeins to see if I could do it. Now that I know I can I am going to find some larger skeins to try:)

Self Striping Sock Yarn

So I had this bright idea a couple of days ago! I figured out in my mind how I could put some of my colorways on sock yarn and make them self striping:) It worked but I am not sure that it is cost effective! I dyed up one last night just to see if I could do it! I love it and it is in my shop but I am not sure I will be making more. I think I learned something from the experience though and I have some ideas for long color repeat, self striping, gradient dyed, lace yarns:)

I am so sorry I have been gone for so long. Life has gotten stressful but it has calmed down again and I think I am getting back to normal. We had to move quickly and then my hubby lost his job! It has been a couple weeks for both and I am feeling like I can function again! I have been dyeing again and I am loving it! I have been considering starting my own website and dyeing some things other then fiber. I will keep you all posted if that happens! For now I will show you some pretties that I have dyed this week:)

So I cleaned all the white fleece that was a Corriedale from Hub Corriedales:)I carded some and I then spun a little of the scraps from the carding and made a quick N-Ply sample and knit a swatch:) Oh I likey! It is very squishy and soft! Not as soft as merino but still soft:)

Oh and I should let you all know that I am driving to Reno on Thursday and will be spinning and knitting there, while my big boy is fencing:)

Sheepy Goodness!

I just got home from Black Sheep Gathering and I had so much fun with all the sheepy goodness! These guys were so cute!!! My friend Chrystal wants one or maybe two REALLY bad!!! I think she may have a couple next week!

Okay the first one is really a goat, but I still had a great sheepy day and of course I came home with one and a quarter fleeces! Yummmmmmm I see a winter sweater in my future:)

Tour de Fleece

So I am getting ready for the Tour 2011! You see lots of spinners spin yarn while all those cyclists spin their wheels in the Tour de France:) I have a group on Ravelry and we have a team for 2011! I dyed up some fiber yesterday for me to spin during the Tour. I was thinking ahead to Christmas and dyed some colors that I think will be useful as presents:) So here are three bumps that I will be spinning this Tour. Oh and I will spin more then this, this is just the start:)

The first is my Rogue Adventures special Tour11 colorway:)

So I washed up about 4 ounces of that beautiful Romney fleece I showed you yesterday and I have it all carded and ready to spin:) Isn't it lovely?

I also finished spinning this beautiful merino and silk that Shelby gave me when I borrowed her spinning wheel! Isn't is pretty! I want to keep it! I never say that about my handspun! I am giving this one to Shelby though!

All Over The Place

Okay everyone, my knitting has been all over the place this week! I have three projects that I am carrying in my purse and I am literally knitting 100 sts on one then I get bored and switch to another and knit 60 there and then switch! It is actually really funny! But it doesn't lead to finished projects quickly. I am also still spinning the yarn for the hubby's sweater and I am still spinning the beautiful purple fiber on Shelby's Matchless:) Lots going on just not a lot finished:)

I don't have any pictures of my knitting because it is so pathetic this week! Oh BTW it is a sock, a mitten and a sweater! But I did dye a very Girly colorway I thought you might enjoy seeing:)

WWKIP Day

That would be World Wide Knit In Public Day:) I am going to be participating in the WWKIP day at the Knitting Bee this weekend. The knitters are going to take over the area in front of the shop:) I plan on having a margarita and knitting. I love social knitting and this should be a blast! It is Saturday June 11th from 1-4PM stop by and say hi! Oh and I think that the shop will be having raffles and a sale and the surrounding restaurants are offering knitters a 20% discount! YUMMMMMM

10 Reasons

Okay everyone as we move into summer we are all busy out of doors and we seem to have less time to knit! So I thought that it might be nice to address a few reasons why it is important to support your local yarn store year round but even more so in the summer.
Sales drop considerably during the summer and it is very hard for these small businesses to survive the heat! If you want them to exist support them:)

Reason #1- When you need help with you knitting or crocheting there is always a friendly LYS employee to answer your questions!

Reason #2- What would your world look like if you could only buy yarn at Micheal's, Joann's, Walmart....! You get the idea right!

Reason #3- Who would you take all those inspirational classes from?

Reason #4- Where else can you go that other people don't think you are nuts for wanting to roll in a pile wool!

Reason #5- Knitting is therapy! Well at least it is for me!

Reason #6- When you need honest help deciding what size sweater to knit, who are you going to get to measure you and make sure that you choose the correct size? Next time your in the yarn department at Walmart why don't you ask the nearest employee! I would love to hear how that turns out!

Reason #7- Who else is going to sympathize and maybe even help when you have to frog an entire project because it just isn't right!

Reason #8- Where are you going to go to touch the yarn and make sure that it feels just right for a project!

Reason #9- How are you going to hold the yarn up to your face and get an honest opinion of weather or not you can wear that color! Trust me this is helpful!!! I ask everyone who is in the store not just the employees!

Reason #10- Where else are you going to go when you just need a break from life and you just want to be in the presence of all those wool fumes???

Oh and I just have to add where else are you going to get to see and feel all those hand knit samples! Talk about inspiration!

Really everyone our local yarn stores are filled with people that care about yarn knitting, crocheting and more. They educate so many people everyday in so many ways. I know when I first learned to knit I drove my local store nuts because I sometimes came in four times a day! I needed help and I needed it now:) I am like that! They helped me with a smile and I grew into the knitter that I am today. Support your shops in any way you can if you want them to continue to exist:) I know that all the wool festivals and fiber events are tempting and we want to spend some money on something different when we go, just remeber if you want a yarn heaven away from home to exist in your cummunity save some pennies for your local LYS:)

I apologized if this was long winded, it is not my normal style but it was something I felt we all may have needed to be reminded of:)

New Fibers

I decided to try a couple new fibers this week in my dyeing adventures. I bought some Shetland Top in a brown color to dye and it came out very pretty in some dark colors:)

I also bought some merino that is a heathery light brown and it is so soft and pretty and it dyes up really nice! I am calling it Merino Heathers and I really hope this one is a hit because I love it!

Goings Ons!

So we have just been living at our house this past week! I asked the boys to clear the school work from the table the other night for dinner and this is the result of their efforts!

I also am being tortured by my dear friend Shelby! She loaned me her Matchless to play with and gave me some of her lovely fiber to play with! Can I just say heaven! Now I am frantically going to try to sell enough fiber this month to buy one for my trip to reno for the Fencing National Championships. They take place over the Tour de Fleece! I so need a wheel that can go with me:)

Bill's Sweater

I am in fact spinning up that pile of Cormo! I plied some yesterday, knit a little swatch and then plied the rest of the bobbin after I decided it was going to work! I am finally going to make my hubby this sweater:)

I have some Cormo locks soaking for him to wash tonight for the contrast color:) I think I might make him card it too!

Another UFO Finished and New Colorways

I finished another UFO yesterday! I really have no idea why it turned into a UFO. It is just an easy Slipper Sock pattern that I wrote a long time ago:) I had the first sock done and the second was mid heel! Crazy! Anyway these will make a nice gift for a fencing coach:)

I also got some dyeing done yesterday and came up with three new colorways. Happy days, I have been busy!

On and Off the Needles

So when I was in Boston I bought three skeins of Silky Wool in black to knit another Garter Ruffle Shawl. I had made myself a green one a couple of years ago and have I loved it so much I wanted another in a color combo that I could wear with everything. So I bought three skeins of black because I wanted a black shawl with a grey border.I new the Knitting Bee had the grey so I purchased the black on my trip. It is off the needles and I LOVE IT!!!!

This is the green one I did a while back. Oh and by the way these are inspired by the one mustaavillaa did:)

This is what is on my needles:) I am making some socks out of handspun. The funny thing about this is, I have only spun half the fiber up! I forgot how I spun it so I have to knit the sock to see how to prepare the fiber to spin for the second one:)

Beach Day

The beach in Oregon is always an experiance!

I love hiking through the pacific rain forest to the beach.

I love the Wood Sorrel and the fact that my youngest and all the kids for that matter can't eat enough of it!

I love that we get to look for Grey Whales at the look outs on the hike in.

I love that I have big boys that help carry all the beach supplies.

I love that the kids don't care so much that it is cool and windy when we get there.

I love that my big boy can sleep on anything!

I love that my middle boy doesn't care how cold the water is and neither does his friend!

I love the walk back to through the forest with the ferns unferalling.

And I think the forest loves us:)

Elliotts Socks

Elliott has been begging me to make him socks for a while. I finally made them:) I think the reason I put it off for so long is because he is my youngest child. That means that I won't have anyone in my family to pass them down to and he could grow out of them before he wears them a dozen times!

Okay, so a couple of months ago I wrote up my Christmas list and then I went through my UFO's and figured out what I had started that I could give as gifts. then I filled the list of names with items that would be given. So far I have 6 out of 32 gifts finished:) I feel like I am doing pretty good. I finished a very old pair of socks this morning that will be a gift for my mom and last night I finished up a pair that are intended for my brother in-law:)

These are the brother in-law socks and they are also my May socks:)

Woot! I am feeling pretty good about my progress:)
