A day to dye!

This weekend I dyed fiber with the gals at Frog Creek Fibers!!! It was really fun and I got some interesting colors. I have so much respect for the independent dyers of the world, that can dye fiber without felting it!!!! It was really hard to dye the fiber and not agitate it to much! Overall a fun day.

Amanda from Frog Creek dyed the rainbow one for me!!! Thanks Amanda.

And yes I dyed the one that looks like vomit!!!

Aquisitions!!!

My friend Shelby and I went in on a spinning wheel last night!! This is a very specialized wheel that I will not be able to use all the time!!! It is an Ashford Country Spinner. This will spins very big chunky yarn. It is great for novelty yarn and plying!!! Shelby is really interested in making novelty yarn and I like the idea of plying on it and making chunky thick and thin yarn!!!

I made this last night! Beautiful BFL fiber that I bought from blglf on etsy!

Here is the wheel! We are still trying to come up with a name for her. She is big and strong we are thinking Birtha or Wonda. What do you think we should name her?

Hello Out There!!!

I am still around! I have just been spinning a lot. I just read Spin Control By: Amy King. It was a really nice read for a beginning spinner it would be great. For someone like me who has been spinning for a while, it still has very useful information. I actually read it from cover to cover. Now that is saying something!!! Check it out at a yarn store near you!!! I bought my copy at The Knitting Bee Of course!!!

I'm Back

So sorry for the long absence! I have been busy knitting and wheeling and dealing my spinning wheel. I sold my Traddy yesterday and bought a Kromski Sonata. I got a super deal and couldn't pass it up. I actually made 20 bucks!!!! I'm thinking that I am going to start a side business of buying used wheels, fixing them up and reselling them. Just here and there, but what fun. I will let you all know how it goes!!!

By the way,I have been knitting and I have a picture of a finished sock for you and a picture of the doubleknit potholder that I just designed for a class I am going to teach in December. Double knitting is a lot of fun and a really neat technique to know!!
Not the best pictures but they will have to do!!!

I will have the potholder pattern available for free after the class!

The Boy Did Well

My big boy is finished fencing!!! He fenced really well. He placed 74th in Cadet (17 and under) out of 144. I know that doesn't sound good but some of the best fencers in the country fence in cadet still. Then yesterday he fenced Youth 14 (birth years 95 and under) the kids are very good and he is young for the age group. He placed 8th out of 87! He won a medal and had a great day. Now I can stop stressing and have a good day!!!

I am getting lots of knitting done! I will be sure to show you pictures when the camera returns!

I plan on getting a lot of knitting done this weekend. I am hoping to show you two pairs of socks and two bath mitts by Monday evening. That is when the camera will return. Wish me luck!

Oops!!!

It is really 350 yards!

Singles

Yesterday I spun up 250 yards of merino singles. I bought the fiber from Stitch Jones and carded it to make it easier to spin. The carding blended the colors nicely. This will be the first time that I leave a lot of yarn as singles. I have left small amounts in the past but not enough to really do something with. I tried to spin it at a worsted and I think that for the most part it is. There are spots that are thinner and spots that are thicker, but for the most part I believe it is worsted. Now I just have to decide if I want to keep it????

Still Playing

I am almost out of fiber to play with!!! I am still playing but it isn't going to last much longer. So sad for me. I have really had a good time playing with all this fiber. I made my last batt last night and spun up another skein this morning. I have one more skein to spin and then I am out of fiber. I think I will have to go buy some soon! So here is almost, the last of the spinning for a while. I am going to show you some knitting tomorrow I promise, I am preparing for some December classes that I am going to teach. I will have samples to show you tomorrow!

Slightly thick and thin bulky 100% merino in two shades of purple!

Kind Friends

My dear friend Shelby came over yesterday to spin with me for a while! A few weeks ago we went on an adventure together and bought her a spinning wheel. Boy was that a good adventure, anyway she is still learning to spin. We thought it would be fun to spin together for a while so that I could offer some advice and so that we could drink tea and chat!!! The tea and chatting is the most important part if you ask me! Anywho she brought me a beautiful bowl that she made just for me!!!! I LOVE IT! I have been saying that I need a large bowl for making bread and she made me one. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I am so happy I could do a little dance. Anyway she makes beautiful thing check her out on etsy! Heartstone
And yes I am animated, that is why I use all those exclamation points.

Crochet

So I went crazy last week and spent some time crocheting!!!! I have not really crocheted in years, but last week I just felt like it. I crocheted the dream catcher in the earlier post and then I crocheted this trivet and now I think it is out of my system for a while.

Don't get me wrong, I really like crochet. I learned to crochet before I knit!!! It was just odd to me that I HAD to crochet for a couple of days!

Tea anyone???

So I was feeling pretty crappy yesterday and that gave me lots of time to come up with crafty ideas. By 3pm I had decided that I could not lay on the couch anymore. I drove myself to goodwill and bought and old wool sweater coat to felt and turn in to a tea cozy. I love tea, have I mentioned that?

This is what I got! My little two cup teapot is under it in the picture.

The problem is that my tea pot is really fat and the tea cozy goes on but it is snug. So I think this one is destined for the etsy shop and I will make another for me!

Not so Great

I am not feeling well today. So I think I will hunker down with Pride and Prejudice and some tea and tea cozy knitting. I think a tea cozy might just be in order to keep my teapot warm this winter. Thanks for the idea Shelby!!!! I hope you are all feeling better then I am. Trish

A day for finishing!

Yesterday I finished the baby quilt and I finished a Malabrigo Lace Weight triangular shawl. I don't have a picture of the shawl yet because I am lame! But I do have a picture of the finished quilt and I have a picture of what I started yesterday. I started a crochet project if you can believe that!!!
